Muse Developments is launching a commuter bus service to and from Cheadle Royal Business Park, in a show of support for green travel initiatives.
The new service, provided by local company and registered charity Easy-Go CT (Community Transport), will launch on the 24 January in a bid to reduce the reliance on cars as a mode of transport. From this date, people working and running businesses at Cheadle Royal will be able to board the bus at Stockport and Heald Green train stations, providing an alternative, car-free option.
Easy-Go CT will provide two 16-seater buses for the green commuter service, which will operate pick-ups between four stops – Stockport train station, Stockport bus station, Heald Green train station and the business park. The services will run twice in the morning between 7.35am and 8.50am and twice in the evening from 4.45pm to 6.10pm.
Wes Erlam, development surveyor at Muse Developments, commented: “Cheadle Royal Business Park is extremely well located with access to the local road and motorway network, as well as being close to bus and train services. However, unfortunately there is a gap in the local bus service which can make it more difficult to arrive by public transport at peak times in the morning. The aim of this new service is to eliminate that gap and provide an option that has not previously been available to occupiers of the business park.
”Historically, people at Cheadle Royal have relied on cars to get to and from work. Therefore, we wanted to introduce a convenient, cost-effective service to help reduce the volume of traffic, as well as promoting more eco-friendly ways of travelling to work.”
He continued: “Easy-Go is the perfect partner for Muse, as it has an excellent reputation for offering a first-class accessible service, while doing such invaluable work in the community.”
The buses are both DDA compliant, with low floor/wheelchair access. They are available for free to all workers at the business park for a three month introductory period. People simply book a place on the service the day before and hop on and off at their preferred destinations.
Chris Burgess, Chair of Easy-Go CT, which has employed two new drivers to run the commuter service for Cheadle Royal, commented: “This is a great initiative that will enable those who wish to use public transport to enjoy door-to-door travel, right to their place of employment. Community transport aims to provide this type of tailored service and encourage less dependence on the car. We’re delighted to be part of the scheme and hope to expand beyond two buses as it grows in popularity.”
Cllr David White, Executive Member for Transportation at Stockport Council, which has provided support for the scheme since its early inception, said: “Stockport Council has worked closely with Muse Developments and Easy-Go CT to deliver an excellent initiative for the Business Park which will help to reduce traffic congestion in the area, reduce parking demand and provide a sustainable travel alternative for employees and businesses.”
